By Jeff Motz Lincoln Prep Sports.com
Shooting 50% from three-point range is something to brag about, especially against the third-ranked team in Class A. Lincoln Southeast girls hit of 9-of-18 three-pointers in first 16 minutes and clearly set the tone of their game against Omaha Marian early and never trailed, winning 64-55 Saturday night at the Prasch Activities Center.
After Lauren Stricker hit a layup off the opening tip, Southeast hit three-pointers the rest of the first half. Joslyn Schmutte connected on three treys, while Alexas Kastanek and Stricker each hit two threes and Matley Jones and Payton Everett added one a piece to give the Knights a 30-16 halftime lead.
After Marian built up an 11-0 run of baskets from Vicky McIntyre, Megan Tessmer and Hannah Latka, the Knights responded with the start of a late run.
Everett started burying three-pointers in the third quarter, while free-throws from Kastanek and Haley Lake kept Southeast ahead 40-35. Everett nailed two more threes in the fourth quarter and completed a three-point play to boost the Knight lead to 49-35.
Kastanek added 18 points for Southeast (13-6), while McIntyre, the Oklahoma State recruit, scored 21 points and had 12 rebounds.
