- BOYS BASKETBALL: SOUTHEAST UPSETS NO. 1 LINCOLN HIGH
By Jeff Motz Lincoln Prep Sports.com
Tough defense on one of the state's top players and free throws carried the Lincoln Southeast boys basketball team to the winner's circle Friday night. The Knights (14-2) got much needed defensive help from Derek Shouse to shutdown Links star Tobin Reinwald and free throws from Shouse helped secure a 49-45 over the Links at Earl Johnson Gym.
Southeast now claims the city championship with the win and has beaten Lincoln High for the second time this season.
Reinwald managed to get six points and was virtually shut down for much of the night by Shouse and the Knight defense. In the final quarter of the game, Southeast connected on 11 consecutive free throws.
After Eric Jackson hit two free throws and junior guard Derrius Vick scored on a layup, Dylan Flinn scored two of his game-high 16 points off a left-handed hook shot to pull Lincoln High to within two at 42-40.
Jeff Sheets and Jaydee Jurgensen also answered on free throws for the Knights to seal the win.
Jackson led Southeast with 14 points, while Derrius Vick added 12 in the win. Southeast turns around and plays Omaha Creighton Prep at 7pm Saturday night.
